Brasher Library

To The Editor:

It is very evident that some taxpayers in Brasher do not understand what effect a library will have on there property taxes. To raise our taxes by $67 per $100,000 is a little outrageous.

Who will benefit from this? Brasher is a very spread out town and will only help those living in the Brasher Falls area. What about Brasher Center, Helena and Brasher Iron Works? We pay and get no benefit from this as it is closer to use Massena Library.

Libraries are becoming a thing of the past as most people today have a computer, Nook, cellphone or a Kindle. Read the paper and notice that most towns and counties are cutting funding to libraries.

Why? Because we do not have the money to support everything, and we must cut back. To put a library on the second floor in a building that does not meet all the needs of all ages is only putting money in the landlord’s pocket. Does this building meet all the government codes and, if not, who pays for this?

If 85 people want the library, then let the 85 people pay for it, don’t ask for money from the taxpayers if it doesn’t benefit all of us in the town.

Wake up Brasher residents and say no to an increase in you taxes.
