LISBON - Robert O. McNeil is running as a write in candidate for Lisbon Town Council.

Mr. McNeil served as the Lisbon Town Supervisor and as a member of the county legislature in the 1980s before being elected county treasurer in 1986.

He served as the county treasurer until 2010.

Mr. McNeil, a lifelong resident of Lisbon and NAVY veteran, said he hopes to help keep Lisbon’s nice, community atmosphere.

“I thought that I could help improve things,” Mr. McNeil said. “Lisbon is a nice community; I enjoy it. I thought that I could do my bit again.”

As a write in candidate Mr. McNeil said he has his work cut out for him.

“You have to get people to write your name in,” he said. “Hopefully I can do that.”

Mr. McNeil said he thoroughly enjoyed his time as town supervisor in the 1980’s.

“I always tell people that the town supervisor’s job was the best job I’ve had politically,” he said.

Mr. McNeil said his next step is to begin speaking with members of the community about voting for him.

With 40 years of public service in Lisbon and St. Lawrence County under his belt, Mr. McNeil said his return to local politics is only about helping Lisbon residents.

Three other people are vying for a position on the town council. There are currently two seats open; one held my Councilor Gary J. Jarvis and one held by Councilor Alan D. Dailey. Mr. Dailey is not seeking reelection.

Mr. Jarvis is seeking reelection and is running on the Republican ticket.

Ruth C.O. Green is running as an independent and her sister, Sarah Green, is running as a write in candidate.

The general election is Nov. 5.
