LISBON - It might be a little early in the NAC West Soccer season to talk about must wins but Lisbon Central really needed a victory in hosting a talented Edwards-Knox squad on Thursday.
The Knights responded well to the situation scoring twice in the first five minutes of the game and scoring a 3-1 win to bounce back from a 1-0 loss to Morristown.
Morristown followed wins against Heuvelton and Lisbon by recording a 7-1 win at Clifton-Fine.
In other boys West action, Harrisville topped Hermon-DeKalb 4-0 and Hammond and Heuvelton played to a 2-2 tie in the first round of the M-W Dan Rose Tournament (see page 2B for story).
Hermon-DeKalb produced a 3-0 victory at Harrisville in Girls NAC West Soccer action while Hammond edged Lisbon 2-1 in the first round of the Dan Rose Memorial Tournament (see page 2B for story).
Lisbon 3, Edwards-Knox 1: We have a young team and sometimes we can play like a young team. Today the guys really stepped it up and beat a very good team in E-K, said Lisbon coach Bill Reed whose team improved to 5-2, 4-1 NAC West and dropped the Cougars to 2-3, 1-3 NAC West.
Reilly Alberto was outstanding in the midfield controlling the tempo of the contest and our defense of Ryan Buckley, Cody James, Jordan Carr and Tristan Vine really played well.
The Knights Adam Kelley finished two early chances. Just 2:23 into the game he controlled a long punt by goalie Jimmy Robinson (5 saves) and converted against E-K keeper Kaden Dandrow (7 saves) in the sixth minute.
Jake Putney converted from Coleman Smith for a 3-0 lead 11:22 into the second half.
The Cougars answered 12:44 later when Jason Burke scored from Jarrett Bullock.
Morristown 7, Clifton-Fine 1: George Beaulieus Rockets (4-1, 4-1) built a 4-0 halftime lead and cruised behind the scoring of Zach Kanaly (2 goals), Ryan Vollmer (2 goals, 2 assists) and Jake VanArnam (2 goal, 2 assists). Mike Preston delivered one goal and one assist and Tristan Gilmour set up one goal to support Luke Kings goaltending.
Logan Hayes scored the lone C-F tally from Matt Peabody. The Eagles fall to 0-6-1. 0-5.
Harrisville 4, H-D 0: Jared Dreythaler generated two goals and one assist, Tim Fowler scored the first goal and assisted on the second goal and Nate Weaver connected for a goal for the Pirates (7-0, 6-0 NAC West). Chris Sullivan and Colby LaPlatney each logged an assist as Zane Mono made seven saves in the shutout. Reilly ODonnell (10 saves) and Zach Robinson (five save) played goal for the Demons (0-6, 0-4 NAC).
H-D 3, Harrisville 0: Chelsey Mackay stopped just three shots in the shutout where 4-1 Hermon-DeKalb scored three second half goals. Scoring were: Brooke Woodrow (assisted by Rebecca Matthews), Kasey ODonnell and Bridget Rust against the Pirates (0-4-1, 0-2-1). Abby LaFaver made nine saves.
BOYS EAST DIVISON
P-H 4, SLC 1: Joey Jacot converted from Wyatt Snell , Preston Frank scored from Snell, Snell hooked up from Charlie Anderson and Justin Frank connected from Chase Simmons for P-H in the first half.
Norwood-Norfolk 2, Brushton-Moria 0: Coby Munson scored from Ian St. Andrews and Zeb Brown added the insurance goal.

NON LEAGUE GIRLS
P-H 4, Salmon River 3: Kodi Perkins scored a pair of goals including the game winner in the 71st minute for the Panthers (5-1). Brianna Hayes also scored once and produced two assists. Taylor Francis scored twice and drew an assist for SR.
