To The Editor:

Re: Plan 2014 Will Not Cause Severe Damage

I am writing in response to unfounded claims I have recently heard about the IJC’s water levels plan for Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River. The truth is, Plan 2014 will not cause severe damage to property on the southern shore of Lake Ontario. Anyone who says so is misinformed.

Over the past year, the IJC adjusted their proposal to accommodate the concerns expressed by some shoreline property owners. Under the current plan, lake levels fluctuate within a certain range. Plan 2014 now includes triggers. If lake and river start to approach these trigger levels, the IJC’s new Board of Control will act to regulate water levels and protect shoreline properties.

Plan 2014 considers the interests of property owners, boaters, the shipping industry, business and the environment.
