A routine traffic stop resulted in two drug arrests Friday night.
Jeffrey F. Hopper Jr., 22, of 124 CR 16, Canton, and passenger, Angela J. Hutchison, 43, of 624 Irvin Street, were arrested on drug charges by Ogdensburg police after a traffic stop for an equipment violation at 9:42 p.m. on Commerce Street.
After an inspection by United States Border Patrol K-9 unit, a small quantity of crack, and powder cocaine were found in the passenger glove box, city police said.
Ogdensburg police officers found an ounce of crack cocaine, less than an ounce of powder cocaine, a quantity of various, narcotic pain pills, and just over $6,700 in Ms. Hutchinsons purse.
Ms. Hutchison was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class B felony. She was arraigned and transported to county jail where she was held on $10,000 cash bond.
Mr. Hopper was charged with Criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument, a class A misdemeanor. He was released on an appearance ticket, and turned over to the St. Lawrence County Sheriffs Office.
Mr. Hopper was additionally wanted on an Oswegatchie Town Court Bench Warrant.
The investigation remains open, and additional charges may be pending, city police said.
The Ogdensburg Police Department was assisted at the scene by the United States Border Patrol.
