Potsdam, Massena girls soccer teams net Central Division wins


Potsdam Central remained unbeaten with a 2-0 decision on road over Gouverneur while Massena Central outscored OFA by the same margin for its third straight win in NAC Central Division varsity girls soccer matchups on Tuesday.

Potsdam 2, Gouverneur 0: In Gouverneur, Savarah Aidun finished off a play set up by Annette Rishe 15 minutes into the game and the Lady Sandstoners made it stand for the win.

Kalie Grant added the insurance goal when she converted on an indirect kick into the penalty area by Kelsey Green with less than 10 minutes left in regulation.

Bre Sapp recorded four saves in posting the shutout while Taylor Andrews handled seven shots for the Wildcats (3-2, 2-2).

The Lady Sandstoners (6-0-1, 4-0-1) put their unbeaten record on the line this Thursday at home against Massena starting at 4:30 p.m.

Massena 2, OFA 0: At Mike Nicholas Field, the Iestha Porter put the host Lady Raiders ahead in the 18th minute converting on a lead pass from Shannon Casey and that proved to be the game-winner.

Porter then added the insurance goal 18 minutes into the second half assisted by Serena Hall as Massena improved to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the division.

Bailie Young handled the two shots she faced backstopping the win while Jordyn Marcellus made 19 saves for OFA (1-6, 1-5).

The other Central Division games saw Franklin Academy hold off Salmon River 2-0 and Canton down Norwood-Norfolk 4-0.

FA 2, Salmon River 0: In Malone, Morgan Fountain scored an unassisted goal in the 23rd minute of the first half and the Lady Huskies (5-1-1, 4-0-1) relayed it into the game-winner. Hannah Perry netted the insurance goal six minutes into the second half assisted by Alyssa Tatro.

Jayme Lavoie (0 saves) and Meghan O’Connor (1 save) shared crease duties for FA. Wraven Sunday fielded 13 shots for the Lady Shamrocks (2-5, 2-3).

Canton 4, N-N 0: At Roger Dusharm Field, the host Lady Bears broke open a close game with a pair of goals in the final nine minutes of the first half before going on to raise their overall record to 5-1 and league mark to 4-1.

Emily Pinckney anchored the Canton offense with a pair of goals, including the eventual game-winner in the 31st minute, and the third goal of the game on penalty kick eight minutes into the second half. Kali Frank made it 4-0 a minute later while Tori Daley connected for the second goal with less than two minutes left in the first half.

Katie Clemmer turned aside the five shots she faced working the crease for the shutout while Megan Plumb stood tall between the pipes for the Lady Flyers (0-6, 0-5) with a 20-save effort.


In a pair of NAC West Division games on Tuesday, Edwards-Knox edged Morristown 3-2 and Hermon-DeKalb beat Clifton-Fine 6-0.
