Gray: Town hall work comes in well under budget

MASSENA — Two recent projects at the town hall came in well under budget, even after more than $80,000 of extra work was added to one of them.

Town Supervisor Joseph D. Gray said the recent repaving of the town hall’s parking lot was expected to cost $168,000, but the work was completed for $125,353.26, approximately $42,650 under budget.

Recent renovations to the town hall, including repairs to the building’s front steps and facade, came in approximately $70,000 under budget.

Mr. Gray said that project was expected to cost $335,000, but the work ended up costing only $269,168.32.

At the board’s most recent meeting, the Town Council approved $81,247.32 in additional work that Mr. Gray said would not have a negative impact on the project’s finances. Those items included the addition of hand railings on the repaired steps, $1,380; the addition of weather repellent on the upper stone facade on the parking lot side, $11,668.30, and the repointing of the foundation’s stonemasonry on the alley side, $28,409.81.

Three other additions were an expansion joint, backer board, repairs to the bricks and installation of a sealant on the alley side, $7,266.98; repairs to windows in the attic and stripping of paint, $10,436.85, and repairs to the building’s chimney for $22,084.38.
