LOUISVILLE: Gerald F. Fregoe, 77 of State Highway 131 passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving wife and children.
He had been ill for the past year. The family gratefully appreciated the services of Hospice, especially Care Team Maple, the Cancer Center in Ogdensburg, Massena Memorial Hospital here and the support of friends and relatives and many others too numerous to name. Jerry as he was fondly known as by his family and friends was born in Massena Center on June 17, 1936 the son of Ferris and Lois (Kirkey) Fregoe. He graduated from Massena High School and proudly served his country from 1954 to 1958 where he was honorably discharged from the US Air Force. Jerry spent two years in Japan at the air base where he was a radio repairman. He married Joan Brunt on July 15, 1961 at the Church of Sacred Heart in Massena with Rev. Maurice ONeil presiding. In 1962 he started the apprenticeship program at Alcoa in Massena and retired in 1998 as a General Electrician. Prior to Alcoa he worked at the General Motors Plant in Massena as a machine operator for four years. Jerry was a member of 25 year Club at Alcoa and a life member of the NRA and was an honorary member of the East Brook Hunting Club in St. Regis Falls. Jerry was an avid sportsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting with his two pals, who predeceased him Robert Godreau and Red Arno. He liked to joke and reminisce with his good friend Ron Domoulin. Every summer he planted and tended a large garden and helped his wife with canning. A voracious reader he often read a book a week. He especially liked spending time with his family. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Joan, his five children and their spouses, companions and grandchildren; Michele Ann Fregoe of San Diego, CA; Jill and Krishna Murthi of Andover, Mass; Lynn and Tim Connor of Jacksonville, FL.; Lee Fregoe and companion Beth Parker, of Massena; Casey Fregoe and his partner Shirley Green of The Colony, TX, grandchildren, Bailey, Jenna and Zachary Fregoe, Aaron Connor, Rohan Murthi, Shelby Goeke. Jerry is also survived by a sister Ann and her husband Larry Andress of Raymondville and a brother Thomas Fregoe of Massena and several nieces and nephews. Jerry was predeceased by a brother Keith Fregoe and a niece Mary Babcock Hitsman.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Charity of ones choice. Friends and family may call on Friday, Sept. 27, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Phillips Memorial Home, 64 Andrews St. Mass of Christian burial will take place on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013 at 10:00 am at St. Lawrence Church in Louisville with Rev. Scott D. Fobare presiding. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with full military honors.
