CANTON - OFA and Canton went into Thursday’s NAC Central Boys Soccer game undefeated and tied atop the division standings.

The came out the same way at 4-0-1 after a 1-1 tie which OFA Coach Matt Morley said showed a lot about his team.

“We were really tested today and for the first time all season we had to come from behind. Canton is a very good team, both teams took it to each other at different times of the game and both goalies made some good saves,” said Morley who will lead his team to Chazy on Saturday a nonleague test against the reigning New York State Class D Champions.

“We had some guys who have been sick and some guys who got banged up in a very long game. I’m very proud of the guys for the way they played through it. Both teams tried to attack from the outside and I thought DaKota Brady really stood tall on our defense.”

Canton opened the scoring in the 12th minute of the game when Josh Huiatt converted in a scramble after a direct kick settled into a maze of players. The Devils pulled even when Rudy Binion buried a hard-low shot from the 18 yardline in the second half. OFA’s Jake Sias and Canton’s Scott Wight both finished seven-save efforts with tough saves in overtime.

In other Central action Malone beat 3-0 as Kody Mulverhill scored three times and Potsdam blanked Salmon River 2-0 with Ebuka Ononye scoring both tallies

JV’s Tie 0-0: The OFA and Canton JVs played to a 0-0 tie where Devil keeper Justyn McCormick handled 17 shots in the 100-minute shutout.

Coach Jim Howard complimented Will Kroeger and Dylan Jock for anchoring the defense, and Matt Ramm, Alex Sias, Matt Sholette, Josiah Fifield and Max Ahrens for excellent play in the midfield, as well as Noah Moore and Nolan Rishe for fine two-way play up front.
