UTICA - The Canton Central Cross Country program posted a pair of medalist runs at the EJ Hermann Invitational in Utica on Saturday.

In the Varsity Girls large school race Laura Pierce ran first in 19:57 and Cassidy Scott in 21:53 and Carly Whiteford in 22:31 both rendered solid races. Gemma DelRossi and Makenzie Knowlden didn’t finish because of breathing issues.

Gabriella Scott combined with Grace Bessette, Hannah Tupper and Claire Bartlett for a 1,2, 4, 5 finish in the Girls Modified Race. Unfortunately the Bears’ squad was missing two members and couldn’t enter as a full team. Tim Allen and Brandon Lorenc took fourth and sixth in the Boys Modified Race. Tucker Catanzaro, Simon Kaschock-Marenda and Quinton Currie rounded out the Bears’ entry.

The Bears’ freshman-oriented Varsity Boys team competed in a field of 218 runners, mostly upperclassmen. Darren Ricalton, Brandon Fenn, Bridger Royce, James Pinkney, Connor Maskell and Peter Shirtz all turned in admirable outings according to Coach Tom Van DeWater
