The funeral for William M. Streeter will be 2 pm Tuesday, October 1st at the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville, with Pastors Jeffrey Smith and Leon Toby Schilling co-officiating. Burial will follow in Woodside Cemetery, Belleville. Calling hours are from 12 noon until 2pm prior to the funeral service. A Masonic service will be held at the end of calling hours at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Parkinsons Association, 135 Parkinson Ave., Staten Island, NY 10305, the First Baptist Church, 207 State St., or the 5th and 6th Floor Activities at the Samaritan Keep Home, 133 Pratt St., both in Watertown, NY 13601.
Mr. Streeter, 84, Watertown passed away Saturday, September 28th at the Samaritan Keep Home where he had resided since April of 2006.
Bill was born June 14, 1929 in Woodville, a son to William L. and Carrie Cooter Streeter. He graduated from Union Academy at Belleville in 1947 and later graduated from the Watertown School of Commerce. Bill went to work for the Jefferson County Bank (now Community Bank) on Washington St. in November of 1948, holding several positions there to include branch manager at the Arsenal St. office and bank appraiser for a total of 38 years. Bill continued his appraisal work for the bank for four years following his retirement.
Bill was involved with the Watertown Masonic Lodge, the Royal Arch Masons Sackets Harbor Chapter, No. 68, King David Council No. 97 Cryptic Masons, Belleville, Watertown Lions and Kiwanis Clubs and was an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels. He and his wife, Jeannette, have been members of the Watertown Baptist Church since 1953, with Bill holding many offices and was a life deacon. He enjoyed camping, backpacking, snowmobiling, playing cards, square dancing, taking cruises and collecting Coca-Cola serving trays.
He married Jeannette Daly September 29, 1951 at the Honeyville Baptist Church. He was a member of the Adams Village Baptist Church before moving to Watertown.
Bill is survived by his wife, Jeannette; a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Bill Mertz, Cicero; a son Dale W., Central Square. 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren. A sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Gerald Barrett; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law William and Rebecca (Daly) Cross; a sister-in-law, Caroleen Streeter. Many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Carlton and two sisters Dorothy Stinson and Flora Barrett.
