Second annual chamber Ogtoberfest on Saturday

The second annual Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce Ogtoberfest is Saturday and will feature pizza and apple cider.

Pizza and apple cider?

At an event designed to set the mood, festivity and cuisine of an authentic Bavarian beer hall? “Not everyone likes bratwurst,” said Sandra M. Porter, the chamber’s executive director.

So be it. The event will be held rain or shine from 2 to 8 p.m. on the grounds of the Dobisky Center. It will also feature a beer garden, wine slushies, sauerkraut, preztels, donuts, crafts, a bake sale, cider-making from 3 to 4 p.m., pumpkin-carving, a farmers market, face-painting and inflated bounce houses for children.

Music will be provided by the U.S. Army 10th Mountain Division Band from Fort Drum from 3 to 5 p.m. and Pat Duffy of Ogdensburg.

Fireworks will begin at 7 p.m.

“We have a lot of community support,” Ms. Porter said, noting the participation of the Lions, Rotary and Fort La Presentation organizations as well as others. “The plan is to make this a community event.”

And a successful one at that. The 2012 debut of Ogtoberfest made money for the chamber, resulting in a profit of more than $1,200. Also, Hosmer’s Marina contributed $500, which was 75 percent of its profit from its beer tent.

Admission is $2 per person with no charge for children under age 10.
