Canton woman charged with neglecting dogs

CANTON — A pair of malnourished dogs are on the mend and their former owner was charged by state police Tuesday for failing to feed the young pitbulls that she dropped off at the Potsdam Animal Shelter less than a week ago.

Christina E. Ladison, 28, of 62 Baker Road, Canton, was ordered to appear in Potsdam Town Court on Oct. 10 to answer two misdemeanor charges of failure to provide food for the dogs. She took the dogs to the shelter on Thursday for treatment and said she found them abandoned on her porch, police said.

The police investigated and found Ms. Ladison had owned the dogs for at least a year. A neighbor told police that she helped nurse the dogs back to health when Ms. Ladison had allegedly neglected them about a year ago.

The dogs - an about 2-year-old female and year-old male - are recuperating at the shelter after treatment at Town and Country Veterinary Clinic in Potsdam.

“We named the female Hope and the male Justice,” Potsdam Humane Society Executive Director Alysia M. Maynard said. “They are very emaciated. They will eventually be up for adoption, but they need to get to a healthy weight.”
