Support the Harvest Run/Walk

To The Editor:

Once again, Maureen and Bill McNally, owners of The Place, Ford Street, Ogdensburg, have started the fundraising off for the Harvest Walk/Run with a bang, sponsoring a spaghetti dinner. On Sept. 9, over 100 meals were served, raising $700.

All money raised assists the many programs who serve the critical needs of community members. These include: Catholic Charities, Renewal House, St. Vincent De Paul, Salvation Army, Lisbon Churches’ Food Pantry, St. Raphael’s Parish Food Pantry, Ogdensburg Neighborhood Center, Seaway House, St. John’s Episcopal Church, Notre Dame, St. Mary’s Cathedral, and First Presbyterian Church of Ogdensburg.

A big thank you to not only Bill and Moe, but to volunteer Doug Loffler, and to those dedicated patrons who attend year after year.

The Harvest Walk/Run will be held this year on Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. Registration begins at noon at the Dobisky Center. Sponsor sheets are available at the local churches, high schools, Catholic Charities, Seaway House and the Neighborhood Center. Please form a team, and help out your community. Last year 19 teams participated, along with over 300 individuals. Trophies are awarded to the top three teams, as well as gift certificates donated from area restaurants to the top five individual fund raisers. If you choose, you could also donate your cans and bottles to the Walk, as an account has been set up at Perry’s Place, and the ARC. We also are encouraging everyone to bring their cans and bottles to the walk where we will have the collection bin from Perry’s.

Other events that benefit the Harvest Walk include: a breakfast at the Ogdensburg Knights of Columbus on Oct. 6 from 8 a.m. to noon, a 50/50 raffle to be drawn the day of the event, and a pizza and wing afternoon at the Ogdensburg Elks on Oct. 20 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., put on by the First Presbyterian Church.

Our goal is not only to raise money, but to raise awareness surrounding issues of poverty in our community. We encourage as many as possible to get out and support one another through this 10th Annual Harvest Walk/Run!
