Two cars are off the road and at least one person is seriously injured after a crash that troopers are attributing to road rage Friday afternoon on Route 310, between Canton and Madrid.
Police have identified Douglas Matthews, 33, of Minor St., Canton, as the driver of a Toyota Sequoia that deliberately drove a Toyota Camry carrying his two children, their mother, and their grandmother off the road, causing the Camry to overturn.
The grandmother was driving the Camry, and was airlifted to Fletcher Allen Health Center by Lifenet Helicopter.
Trooper Robert Larrabee confirmed that all five people involved in the accident are related, and that the crash stemmed from a domestic dispute that had started earlier.
Mr. Matthews was taken into state police custody without injury.
The mother and children suffered no serious injuries. The names of the four passengers in the Camery have not been released, and the incident is still under investigation.
Officials from Potsdam Rescue, Canton Rescue, state police, the St. Lawrence County Sheriffs Office, the Parishville Fire Department, the West Potsdam Volunteer Fire Department and Madrid Rescue responded to the scene.
