MASSENA - While furloughed government employees may be working this week without being paid, one Massena business is doing its part to show its appreciation.
Studio 162 in downtown Massena is offering free haircuts to furloughed federal employees for the duration of the government shutdown.
We have quite a few customers who are government employees, said Stacey Arquiett, who co-owns the business with Angie Frost.
The promotion was announced Friday morning via a Facebook posting that quickly garnered more than a dozen likes and was shared nearly 40 times by the close of business Friday evening.
At the studio there has been lots of conversation about the state of our government. We have many clients that this directly affecting along side their families. So it made us think, what can we do to help? For any government employee furloughed with the government shutdown we are offering free haircuts for that employee for the length of the shutdown, Ms. Arquiett wrote. Its not much but enough to say we appreciate the fact that you go in anyway to protect us. Thank you.
Ms. Arquiett said she was speaking with a customer about the situation earlier this week.
One of my government employees said she cant even take sick days or vacation days while the government is shut down, she said. Theyre going through a tough time, so we figured the least we could do was give them a free haircut.
Ms. Arquiett said the free haircut offer is available to new customers, as well as returning customers.
We take walk-ins when we can, but its always easier to call for an appointment. If we have an opening, we take walk-ins when we can, she said, adding the salon may be reached at 705-0020.
When asked how long the promotion would run, she said it will continue for the length of the shutdown.
As long as the government shutdown is in effect, we will do free haircuts for furloughed employees, she said.
