From the old Balmat School to a community gym, the G3 Training Center is a big hit in the Gouverneur area.
The training center, which is owned and operated by Gordon Griffith, is entering its sixth month of existence. Griffith bought the old school in March and was training his first boxer by April.
The two-story training center offers turbo kick classes from certified instructors, wrestling practices from local coaches, and Boxing lessons from two-time New York State Golden Gloves winner Gordon Griffith. Griffith also provides weekly boot camps which consist of various workouts of strength and endurance training.
This past July, eight members of the G3 training center competed in the rigorous Tough Mudder event. Tough Mudder events are hardcore obstacle courses designed to test your all around strength, stamina, mental grit and camaraderie. Gordon put us through a lot of tough workouts designed to improve our strength and endurance. He just has a way of making you want to work hard. said Stephanie Plaisted, a Tough Mudder finisher.
He wanted us to succeed and even went as far as to build obstacle specific pieces of equipment, like the ladder he suspended from the ceiling of the gym to simulate the Funky Monkey obstacle, to help us be successful. Thanks to him, our team was well prepared for the Tough Mudder, says Plaisted.
The weekly boot camps also attract a large amount of people to the gym.
I love the boot camp workouts because they are fun and can be adapted to meet all fitness levels. The workouts vary each session, so you never know whats in store for you until you get there, says Plaisted.
Gordon may have stations set up around the gym, or he may have a group workout planned. He may have you lifting weights, running the hill, punching the bags, or completing a set of bodyweight exercises. Whatever the workout, you always leave feeling satisfied that you got the best workout possible.
G3 recently hosted the Knock Out Leukemia Benefit Run/Walk on Sept. 15th that benefited two local residents that are fighting leukemia. The benefit was organized by members and staff of the training center. The event saw over 200 runners and walkers gather to support their community.
Gouverneurs Albert Tulley has fought in two MMA bouts and one boxing match under the guidance of the G3 coaching staff.
Gordon and Randy Morrison have taught me every skill I know as I came to G3 completely green Tulley said. I have absolutely nothing but positive things to say about the coaches and everyone at gyms support
