N-N, C-P girls soccer team upend NAC division rivals


Threatening weather wiped out several NAC soccer games on Monday but it didn’t stop the Norwood-Norfolk and Colton-Pierrepont varsity girls teams from pulling off upset wins over league rivals.

N-N 2, Gouverneur 1: In a Central Division matchup, the visiting Lady Flyers opened the scoring and closed it to come away with their first win in 10 tries this season.

Kim Stewart gave N-N the early lead when she broke through for an unassisted goal in the eighth minute.

Bell Hall pulled the Lady Wildcats even 22 minutes into the second half but Aleah Palmer knocked the ball into the back of the net through a goalmouth scramble just five minutes later for what would hold up as the game-winner.

Megan Plumb handled 14 shots working the crease for the Lady Flyers (1-9, 1-8). Taylor Andrews posted five saves for Gouverneur (6-3, 5-3).

N-N plays host to Salmon River on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

C-P 2, Tupper Lake 1: At Swift Field, the Lady Colts produced the only goal of the second half in knocking of the Lumberjacks for their third East Division win of the season.

Haylee Hennessy finished off a play set up by Abbie Johnson to give C-P the lead 15 minutes into the game but Tupper Lake (4-7-1, 4-5-1) knotted the score in the 29th when Lindsay Maroun converted off an assist from Amie Luton.

Freshman Madison Gregg tallied the game-winner five minutes into the second half assisted by Hennessy as the Lady Colts improved to 4-6-1 overall.

Kathryn Miller was counted on to make another two saves working the crease for the win while Ryanne O’Connor fielded seven shots for the Lumberjacks.

The Lady Colts are slated to play at Chateaugay on Thursday.

In other NAC girls soccer action on Monday, Canton netted a 2-0 Central Division win at home over OFA while Hammond turned back West Division rival Harrisville 3-1. Salmon River at Potsdam was postponed to this afternoon. The lone boys soccer game played on Monday saw Harrisville blank Morristown 4-0.

Canton 3, OFA 0: At Roger Dusharm Field, the Lady Bears relayed the momentum of a quick two-goal burst early in the first half into a win over the visiting Lady Blue Devils.

Emily Pinckney struck for the game-winner in the 11th minute assisted by Johanna Shea and Bailey Hurlbut connected for an unassisted goal just a minute later to make it 2-0 by halftime.

Morgan Rosser finished off a play set up by Mary Kait Mace seven minutes into the second half to close out the scoring.

Katie Clemmer made three saves for Canton (8-3, 6-3) while Jordyn Marcellus logged seven stops for OFA (2-9, 2-8).
