POTSDAM - The Potsdam Central varsity girls soccer team relayed a three-goal halftime lead into a 4-0 NAC Central Division win at home over Salmon River on Tuesday.

The Lady Sandstoners improved to 10-0-1 overall and 8-0-1 atop the division standings. Along with staying unbeaten, they have yet to surrender a goal as junior netminder Bre Sapp made all four of her saves over the final 28 minutes of regulation to record her 11th shutout.

Senior Ally Miller scored the only goal Potsdam would need when she converted on a penalty kick in the fifth minute. The Lady Sandstoners then put the game out of reach with a quick two-goal burst midway through the first half as sophomore Kalie Grant finished off an assist from Miller in the 22nd minute and classmate Kayla Phillips connected a minute later to make it 3-0 at the break.

The Lady Shamrocks got their first shot on net 12 minutes into the second half and traded chances through to the end. Salmon River’s best chance came with four minutes left but Sapp was able to handle a mid-range shot from the right of the penalty area by Jaiden Mitchell. Sapp’s ensuing punt led to the the final goal of the game as junior Kelsey Green controlled the ball near midfield and worked it over to the left wing to senior Annette Rishe, who made a quick move to avoid a defender then crossed a shot into the top right corner of the net from just outside the penalty area on the left with 3:24 remaining in regulation.

Wraven Sunday went the first 70 minutes between the pipes for Salmon River and posted 19 saves before giving way to Kiera Jacobs, who handled one more shot through to the end.

The Lady Sandstoners are slated to play at Canton on Thursday while the Lady Shamrocks (3-8, 3-6) head to Norwood-Norfolk.

In the other NAC varsity girls soccer action Tuesday, Madrid-Waddington pulled away to a 5-0 East Division win at home over St. Regis Falls while a West Division matchup saw Heuvelton beat Morristown 5-1.

M-W 5, SRF 0: The Lady Yellowjackets (5-6-, 5-5-0) ran out to a 4-0 lead by halftime as four different players scored goals. Tess Knights netted the game-winner just four minutes into the game. M-W went ahead 2-0 on an own goal in the eighth minute. First-year senior Taylor Perry then broke through for her first career goal off an assist from Desiree Pryce in the 20th minute before Mary Young capped the first-half scoring eight minutes later with an unassisted strike.

Hannah Marcellus closed out the scoring with 14:20 left in regulation off an assist from Mariah Patenaude.

Freshman Marlaina Bush handled the four shots she faced in backstopping the shutout while Sarah Brockway made 15 saves for the Lady Saints (0-10, 0-8).
