CANTON The man facing a murder charge in the death of his girlfriends infant son was indicted on another charge by a St. Lawrence County grand jury this week.
Gary L. McKenzie II, 22, of 154 Hailesboro St., Apt. 26, Gouverneur, is being charged with one count of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class D felony.
It is alleged that on July 16, McKenzie was in possession of an unloaded, large-capacity M-16-style, 30-round magazine.
He is scheduled be arraigned on the new charge on Oct. 21 in St. Lawrence County Court.
McKenzie was arrested by state police July 16 and accused of throwing 7-month-old Braylin W. Chambers to the floor, causing an inoperable brain injury and hemorrhaging that resulted in the childs death.
He is being held in St. Lawrence County jail in lieu of $100,000 cash or $250,000 bond.
He pleaded not guilty Sept. 23 to second-degree murder, a class A-1 felony; second-degree manslaughter, a class C felony; reckless assault of a child, a class D felony; and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.
In other indictments handed up in County Court Monday:
Nicholas A. Steenkamer, 20, of 525 E. Hayward St., Ogdensburg, is charged with two counts of second-degree criminal sex act and two counts of second-degree rape, all class D felonies.
It is alleged that during August and on Sept. 25, in the city, he engaged in oral sexual contact and sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl.
Joshua A. Henderson, 24, of 68 E. Orvis St., Apt. D, Massena, is charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class B felony.
It is alleged that on June 26, in the village of Massena, Mr. Henderson was in possession of a dagger with the intent to use it unlawfully against another person.
The grand jury also reported that on June 11, Mr. Henderson had been convicted of fourth-degree attempted criminal mischief, a class A misdemeanor.
Shawn A. Monaghan, 29, of 32 Maple St., Massena, is charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, both class B felonies.
It is alleged that on Sept. 4, in the village of Massena, Mr. Monaghan sold cocaine to another person.
Troy D. Brighton, 44, of 35 Orebed Road, Canton, is charged with second-degree burglary, a class C felony.
It is alleged that on July 23, he unlawfully entered a home 3063 County Route 21, in Canton, with the intent to commit a crime.
Christopher Lopez, 23, Bronx, is charged with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class B felony.
It is alleged that on Aug. 27, in the village of Massena, Mr. Lopez was in possession of both heroin and cocaine with the intent to sell it.
