LISBON - Lisbon Beach and Campground Director Michael J. ONeil defended his request for a 52-percent raise next year, saying the amount of time he dedicates to the job warrants the increase.
At last months meeting the Town Council tabled any discussion of Mr. ONeils salary.
The council is expected to discuss his salary at Wednesdays meeting which will be held at the Town Hall at 6:30 p.m.
Mr. ONeil currently makes $13,000 and asked to have that increased to roughly $20,000 per year.
The Lisbon Beach and Campground is open from May 1 to Oct. 15.
I work seven days a week from mid-April to October 15, Mr. ONeil said. In the summer time Im here working at least 16 hours a day.
Mr. ONeil said his current salary equates to much less than the state minimum wage of $7.25 and is a bargain for the town.
Thats really low compared to [the salaries at] state parks, he said of his requested salary.
In addition to working through the summer months when the campground is open Mr. ONeil said he is busy in the winter taking reservations.
This is my life here now, Mr. ONeil said. I havent missed a days work from the day I took this job.
On the job Mr. ONeil is responsible for reservations, maintenance, supervising other employees and managing the day-to-day needs at the beach and campground.
