High school boys soccer: Watertown secures regular-season crown

Tim Peters, Nick Long and Brad McKinney each contributed one goal and one assist as host Watertown clinched the Frontier League “A” Division boys soccer regular-season title with a 5-0 victory over Carthage on Tuesday.

Tyrell Thomas and Eric Gibbs also scored for Watertown (12-0-1 overall), and the stout Cyclones defense forced goalie Marcus Lavarnway to make just one save.

Carthage fell to 2-10.

IHC 4, INDIAN RIVER 2

The Cavaliers scored three goals in the first 22 minutes as they beat the Warriors in an “A” Divsion game in Philadelphia.

Pat Gefell’s penalty kick proved to be the game-winner after opening goals by Zach Frechette and Jude Fusilli. JP McClusky also scored and Jarrod Smith made 17 saves for Immaculate Heart Central (10-2-1).

Erick Torres and Kyle Barker scored for Indian River (10-2).

LOWVILLE 1, SOUTH JEFFERSON 0

Isaac Worrell’s goal in the 65th minute helped the Red Raiders to a “B” Division victory in Adams.

Collin Farquhar made eights saves for Lowville (6-7-1, 6-6-1).

Peter Lumley turned aside eight shots for South Jefferson (3-10, 3-9).

COPENHAGEN 2, SACKETS HARBOR 0

The Golden Knights recorded a goal in each half to post the “D” Division shutout at Copenhagen and remain unbeaten.

Brenden Jacobs and Cody Buckley scored, while Antonio Figueroa assisted on both goals. Goalies Robbie Groff and Brandon Buckley combined for six saves for Copenhagen (12-0, 11-0).

Alex Keegan made 10 saves for Sackets Harbor (9-3, 8-3).

ALEXANDRIA 4, LAFARGEVILLE 0

Jordan VanBrocklin scored a goal and assisted on two others to help the Purple Ghosts to a “D” Division victory over the Red Knights in Alexandria Bay.

Brodix Gill, Tristan Thomson and Trenton Service also scored for Alexandria (7-6, 5-6). Goalie Anthony Bennett made 14 saves to record the shutout.

LaFargeville fell to 2-10.

LYME 11, BELLEVILLE HENDERSON 1

Troy Wilson powered the Indians with four goals and three assists as they routed the Panthers in a “D” Division game at Belleville.

Tanner Wiley chipped in with three goals and two assists, and Tristan Walker added two goals for Lyme (11-2, 9-2).

Hunter Benjamin scored for Belleville Henderson (0-11).

GENERAL BROWN 6, BEAVER RIVER 0

Ryan Sheridan supplied one goal and two assists in the Lions’ nonleague victory over the Beavers at Dexter.

David Vodicka generated two goals, and Cole Johnson and Shawn Wilcox each added one goal and one assist. Ryan Lamon made two saves for General Brown (6-7-1).

Beaver River is 2-8-1.

GIRLS SOCCER

SOUTH JEFFERSON 8, CARTHAGE 0

Courtney Cavellier accounted for three goals and two assists during the Spartans’ crossover victory at Adams.

Hayley Maguire contributed two goals and one assist, and Paige Maitland scored twice. Jackie Decker made 10 saves for South Jefferson (9-1-2).

Carthage is 7-5-1, 6-4-1.

LYME 3, ALEXANDRIA 1

Yanna Ososkalo scored a goal in each half to propel the Indians to a “D” Division win at Chaumont.

Taylor Brown contributed one goal and one assist for Lyme (8-3-1).

Amanda Lingenfelter scored for Alexandria (2-8-1).

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

SOUTH LEWIS 19, SOUTH JEFFERSON 36

Leif Ostrum and Dylan Durgan tied for first with a time of 16 minutes, 4 seconds as the Falcons beat the Spartans Frontier League interdivision win in Turin.

Ryan Teal grabbed fourth for South Lewis (5-1).

Nate Tyler was the high finisher with a third-place finish for South Jefferson (3-3).

WATERTOWN 23, SANDY CREEK 32

James Lamson took first with a time of 18:46.8 to power the host Cyclones to their first win of the year with in an interdivision meet against the Comets.

Austin Myers placed third and Jacob Roux was fifth for Watertown (1-4).

Troi Wall earned second for Sandy Creek (0-5).

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

SOUTH JEFFERSON 27, SOUTH LEWIS 28

Skylar Pastor and Jackie Miller finished in the top two spots as the Spartans scratched out an interdivision victory over the Falcons in Turin.

Pastor won with a time of 18 minutes, 5 seconds, while Miller finished just four seconds behind for South Jefferson (5-1).

Sierra Corbett was third and Christina Platt took fourth for South Lewis (4-2).

SANDY CREEK 18, WATERTOWN 45

The Comets placed seven runners in the top 10 to lift them to an interdivision win over the host Cyclones.

Freya Sergia won with a time of 22:01.2, while Rachel Yerdon was second at 22:32.6.

Lydia Fillhart took third for Watertown (0-5) with a time of 24:00.9.

GIRLS SWIMMING

CARTHAGE 102, Indian River 79

Gabbee Park captured two races and was a part of two fastest relays as the Comets secured a Frontier League “A” Division victory at Carthage.

Park won the 200-yard individual medley and 100 backstroke, while Alyssa Kamide added wins in the 200 and 500 freestyles for Carthage (5-6).

Morgan Lightner claimed the 50 free and swam on the first-place 200 free relay for Indian River (2-6).

WATERTOWN 105, SOUTH JEFFERSON 78

Julia Marilley and Victoria Olsen each claimed two races and contributed to a pair of first-place relays during the host Cyclones’ “A” Division victory.

Marilley captured the 50 and 100 freestyles, and Olsen took the 200 and 500 freestyles for Watertown (9-1, 9-0).

Amy Johnson (100 butterfly) and Hannah Markey (100 backstroke) each won an event and placed second in another for South Jefferson (9-1, 9-0).

LOWVILLE 58, SOUTH LEWIS 41

Kelsey McLean captured the 200 and 500 freestyles and contributed to a pair of first-place relays to help power the Red Raiders to a “B” Division victory at Lowville.

Heather Hayes (100 breaststroke) and Mia Poste (diving) won events for South Lewis (0-11, 0-9).

THOUSAND ISLANDS 92, BEAVER RIVER 76

Joanne Bechaz claimed the 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle and swam on two winning relays during the Vikings’ “B” Division victory at Clayton.

Abby Duffy won the 50 free and swam on all three fastest relays, and Darien Frederick captured the diving event, took second in the 200 individual medley and swam on two victorious relays for Thousand Islands (5-4).

Bethany Prashaw (100 butterfly) and Madeline Monnat (100 breaststroke) won events for Beaver River (1-8).

GIRLS TENNIS

MANLIUS-PEBBLE HILL 3, LOWVILLE 2

Olivia Shepard and Caroline Blanck won their singles matches as the No. 5 Trojans beat the fourth-seeded Red Raiders in a Section 3 Class C match at Lowville.

Manlius-Pebble Hill (9-3) will face top-seeded Skaneateles 3:30 p.m. today.

Therese Dines won her first singles match for Lowville (9-4).

SKANEATELES 5, IHC 0

The top-seeded and defending champion Lakers (13-0) swept the No 9 Cavaliers in their Class C match at Skaneateles.

Immaculate Heart Central finished the season (7-7).
