A memorial service for 82-year old Mrs. Jean R. Helmar formerly of the Butternut Ridge Road, Town of Pierrepont will be held Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 3:30 PM at the Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam with Pastor Joseph Schiren of the Church of the Nazarene in Potsdam officiating. Burial will follow in the South Colton Cemetery. Friends may call at the Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam on Saturday, October 12, 2013 from 1:00 to the time of the service at 3:30 PM. Mrs. Helmar died October 7, 2013 at the home of her daughter and son in law in Owls Head, NY with her loving family at her side.

Survivors include 5 daughters: Kate (and husband Les) Howard of Owls Head, Bonnie Helmar of Malone, Cheryl (and husband Tim) Murdock and Carol (and husband David) Waite all of Pierrepont, Amy (and husband Reggie) Emmeson of W. Potsdam. There are also 4 sons surviving: James Helmar and Kevin Helmar both of Canton, Tim and his companion Charlene of Canton, and Tom Helmar of Massena. Survivors also include 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, two sisters Mrs. Robert (Joyce) Daby of Pierrepont, and Mrs. Dale (Janet) Fisher of Oswego. Jean was predeceased by her husband of 51 years along with two sisters, Joan Scovill and Judy (Eva) Coller, and a brother William Rodwell.

Jean was born in Colton, NY on February 5, 1931 the daughter of Algie and Alice (Hutchinson) Rodwell. She was married to William Helmar October 15, 1949 in Johnstown, NY. He was brought home to the Lord on May 10, 2001.

Jean enjoyed her life raising her 9 children of whom she loved. She volunteered at Hospice of the St. Lawrence Valley. She always had a kind word for everyone.
