Massena, Canton swim teams outscore NAC division rivals


Massena Central swam past Franklin Academy while Canton outscored St. Lawrence Central in NAC varsity girls swim meets on Friday.

Massena 65, FA 29: In Massena, the host Lady Raiders placed first in eight of the 11 events led by Emily Hurlbut with wins in both the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle in respective times of 2:17.02 and 6:11.25. Logging solo firsts for Massena were; Abby Elman in the 200IM with a time of 2:46.51, Kalie Peets in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:15.84 and Allison Dix in the backstroke with a time of 1:14.03.

The Lady Raiders (6-1) swept the relay races starting with the 200 medley where Dix, Elman and Peets combined with Courtnee Stowell to post a winning time of 2:1354. Stowell and Hurlbut combined with Baylee Carroll and Taylor Brault to pace the 200 free relay in 2:56.01. The quartet of Stwoell, Hurlbut, Carroll and Sydney Lewis closed out the meet by leading the 400 free relay in 4:22.83.

For the Lady Huskies (2-6), Rita Mills sped to wins in both the 50 freestyle (27.68) and 100 freestyle (1:00.7).

The Lady Raiders are slated to swim at Edwards-Knox next Tuesday.

Canton 108, SLC 62: At Canton Central, the host Lady Bears logged wins in all but one event to remain unbeaten through seven meets.

Angelina Domena and Macy Huntley anchored the Canton scoring with two individual wins apiece

Alex Craft was the leading scorer for the Lady Larries (4-4), pacing the 100 freestle in 1:01.64 while placing second in the 100 breaststroke. Carrie Ramsdell placed second in the 500 freestyle and third in the 200 freestyle.

Canton plays host to Gouverneur on Tuesday while SLC welcomes Salmon River.


In the only NAC varsity girls volleyball match slated for Friday, Franklin Academy downed East Division rival Massena in three straight - 25-21, 25-14, 25-14.
