CANTON Mary E. Rain, Republican candidate for St. Lawrence County district attorney, said she is renewing her challenge to District Attorney Nicole M. Duve to debate each others qualifications and records after Mrs. Duve appeared at the county Democratic Committees fall dinner Friday evening.
The only issue that matters in this campaign is getting justice for victims and putting criminals in jail, Ms. Rain said. I have a record of success; my opponent has a record of failure.
Ms. Rain is taking aim at Ms. Duves record, calling her opponents time in office incompetent, disorganized and ineffective.
Ms. Rain said that since 2008, St. Lawrence County has had 444 cases dismissed, 10 acquittals at trial and 267 reductions on felony cases alone.
My opponent is desperately trying to distract the voters from her terrible job performance as district attorney, Ms. Rain said. All volunteers who attend my rallies and events, including former victims, law enforcement, firefighters, attorneys and citizens seeking justice, all know my opponents dismal performance while in office must end.
Ms. Rain said that as DA, she will offer the county fast-track felonies, and ensure swift justice by using technology to improve the offices efficiency.
If any of you, your spouse, your child, your parent, your loved one is a victim of crime tonight, who would you want prosecuting your case? Ms. Rain said. My opponent may forget about your case, fail to indict the criminals responsible, or drop the ball at trial. I think about it every day, and that is why I ran for district attorney.
