Lisbon’s Russell takes 19th in Hawaii Ironman


KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii — Lisbon native Matt Russell finished 19th overall in the pro division of Saturday’s Ironman World Championship.

Russell, a former Canton high school distance running standout who became a professional triathlete in 2010, finished in a time of 8 hours, 39 minutes and 59 seconds.

Russell finished the swim in 1:04:12, bike in 4:38:25 and run in 2:52:58.

Former Ogdensburg Free Academy athlete Amy Farrell finished 499th overall in the amateur competition. She was fourth in the age 35-39 female division. Farrell, who teaches and caoches at Tupper Lake high school, finished in 9:50:55. She finished the swim in 1:06:19, bike in 5:14:27 and run in 3:24:07. It was her third time competing in the Ironman Championship and her first time as an amateur.

Jeff Kellogg of Adams Center, participating in his first Ironman Championship, placed 940th overall as an amateur. Competing in the men’s 50-54 division, Kellogg finished in 10:31:22. He completed the swim in 1:17:06, the bike in 5:01:02 and the run in 4:02:48. He was 51st in his division.

Sackets Harbor’s Audra Adair, competing in the same division as Farrell, placed 1,148th overall as an amateur and 44th in the 35-39 female division with a time of 10:54:55. She completed the swim in 1:20:17, the bike in 5:34:53 and run in 3:52:33.

Robert Tebo of Tupper Lake placed 1,778th overall, finishing in a time of 13:52:50. He finished the swim in 1:22:36, bike in 6:36:49 and run in 5:36:48, competing in the 65-69 male category. He was 17th in his category.

The 35th annual event features a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and marathon run of 26.2 miles. Belgium’s Frederik Van Lierde won with an 8:12:29 time.
