St. Lawrence University tops SUNY Canton

CANTON — Andrew Bednarsky’s two second-half goals lifted the 19th-ranked St. Lawrence University men’s soccer team to a 3-0 victory over host SUNY Canton in a nonconference game Sunday.

Morgan Smith capped the scoring with a goal in the 67th minute and Aaron Costello made one save for the Saints (9-1-2 overall).

VOLLEYBALL

SUNY CANTON 3, MAINE-FORT KENT 0

Mackenzie Mynter’s 33 assists and five digs helped the Kangaroos sweep the Bengals 25-12, 25-20, 25-12 in Canton.

Jessica Reynolds added nine kills, while Morgan Bills supplied eight kills and six blocks for SUNY Canton (22-3).

WOMEN’S TENNIS

VANDENBEEMT MAKES TWO FINALS

Madie Benn and Melissa Hirsch of Skidmore beat St. Lawrence’s Elkie Vandenbeemt 8-2 in the “A” Doubles final at the state championships in Ithaca.

Vandenbeemt also made it to the first singles final, where she lost to Alison Tepas of Nazareth, 6-2, 6-3.

MEN’S GOLF

CLARKSON at Nazareth

Evan Cody, Matt Blair and Rob Wood each shot a 5-over par 77 to help the Golden Knights to second place after the first day of the Nazareth Invitational at Monroe Golf Club in Pittsford. Clarkson shot 308 as a team and is second behind the University of Ottawa, which shot a 286.

Cody, Blair and Wood are tied for eleventh place behind leader Jordan Rochon of Ottawa.
