CANTON — St. Lawrence University seniors Greg Carey and Matt Weninger were named ECAC Hockey’s player and goaltender of the week, respectively, following the Saints’ season-opening sweep of the University of Maine.

Weninger continued his domination of the Black Bears with a pair of wins last weekend and earned the weekly honor for the second consecutive year as he made 25 saves on 26 shots in a 3-1 win over Maine on Friday and stopped 33 of 35 shots in a 5-2 victory on Saturday. Weninger, who has made 51 straight career starts for the Saints, has saved 124 of 128 shots in four career games against the Black Bears — all wins — against Maine, while posting a .968 save percentage and a 1.00 goals against average.

Carey earned his second career league player of the week award after recording a five-point weekend, including a pair of goals, against the Black Bears. He recorded his second straight four-point Saturday this time around against Maine, scoring two goals and assisting on two others and had an assist in Friday’s win. Last year, Carey posted six points with two goals and four assists in two games at Maine.

Also, in the latest U.S. College Hockey Online Division I poll, unranked St. Lawrence (2-0) led all teams in the others receiving votes list with 47.
