MASSENA - The Massena Valley Garden Club met for its October meeting at Feeleys Tree Farm. John Feeley, proprietor of the tree farm, demonstrated how he trims the evergreens to shape the trees to grow into Christmas trees.
He told the club members which soil the trees grow in, the need to control weeds, proper fertilization and care. He identified different types of evergreens, and he said that it takes six to eight years to grow the ideal Christmas tree.
The clubs members have been busy this week planting daffodil bulbs in various locations around Massena. They continued the planting on Thursday. It is part of the beautification of Massena project the group has been working on. This was a pleasant break for those doing the planting.
This walk in the woods to the tree farm was followed by a meeting hosted by the Feeleys. John gave the members a chance to purchase a tree for the holiday time and tag it until closer to the season. John also holds this open to the public. You may call him at 315-769-8854 to make an appointment.
Anyone with a program the club may be interested in is asked to call Jane Portolese, club president, at 315-769-7383.
