Two men charged with conspiracy after stealing golf carts from SUNY Potsdam and the Collegiate Village

POTSDAM — David A. Degroot, 22, Oceanside, and Robert J. King, 21, Schenectady, both were charged by village police with fifth-degree conspiracy Sunday afternoon.

Mr. King also was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, as he was the operator of a golf cart from SUNY Potsdam and a golf cart from Collegiate Village on outer Main Street that the two men are accused of conspiring to steal early Sunday.

Police allege that Mr. King and Mr. Degroot drove the first golf cart from SUNY Potsdam’s campus to Collegiate Village, where they ditched it and stole the second one.

The two men were stopped by SUNY Potsdam police on Grant Street after they allegedly drove the second cart through the village, police said. The two men were then turned over to village police for driving the carts through the village. The carts were returned.

Both men are scheduled to appear in Village Court.
