Carthage holiday parade planned for Nov. 9

CARTHAGE — The Carthage Area Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for its annual holiday parade.

“The Carthage Area Chamber has carried on the tradition of hosting our holiday parade for well over 40 years. This has become a solid community event, bringing joy for the upcoming holiday season to all. Very simply, it is a fun few hours where everyone can participate either as a spectator or be part of the parade — create a float, drive a vehicle or walk. Everyone is welcome,” chamber President Teri L. Ellis said. “We invite everyone to attend and/or participate. The air is filled with music and excitement as the parade marches through.”

Set for Saturday, Nov. 9, starting at 11 a.m., the parade will line up in West Carthage starting at 9:30 a.m. The parade route goes from North Jefferson Street, West Carthage, across the bridge, down State Street to North School Street to the Elks Lodge at 511 Fulton St.

With the success of last year’s food drive, organizers again are asking for a donation of two bags of nonperishable food items to be given to area food pantries in lieu of an entry fee. Last year 2,830 items and $3,300 in monetary donations were distributed to the Village Ecumenical Ministries and St. James Church food pantries. The bags of groceries may be left at the judges’ stand as each entry passes by for review. There also will be Carthage Central School District students pushing carts along the parade route to collect food from the community.

Area organizations will be offering soup, bake sales and other fundraisers.

Interested groups or organizations can register for the parade by calling the chamber at 493-3590.

The chamber requests Mr. or Mrs. Santa Claus not be represented on floats since it traditionally hosts the Christmas couple on its float.
