Massena’s finale surge shades OFA swimmer

MASSENA - OFA entered Monday’s NAC Girls Swimming meet at Massena looking to secure a tie for second place behind undefeated Canton.

The Aquatic Devils (6-3) rendered a full effort but fell one event short.

OFA built 45-39 but the Lady Raiders (8-2) were able to sweep the top two places in the meet’s finale, the 400 freestyle relay, to pull off the dramatic 48-46.

The quartet of Emily Hurlbut, Sydney Lewis, Kalie Peets and Abby Elman combined to pace the race. Emily Hurlbut captured both the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle and Baylee Carroll claimed the 50 freestyle.

OFA’s bid featured first place finishes in seven of the first 10 events. Susie Morrow (100 free, 100 back) and Julia Mullin (200IM, 100 butterfly) anchored the scoring for OFA (6-3) with two individual wins apiece and both swam on the winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.

Megan Mills and Chelsea Montroy swam on the 200 freestyle relay and Hunter Shaver and Natalie Perrigo rounded out the medley relay foursome.

Perrigo also led the 100 breastroke and rounded out an OFA 1-2 in the 200 individual medley. Montroy also added a second in the 50 freestyle.
