Richard A. Gibson


Funeral services for Richard “Dick” A. Gibson, age 84 of Chippewa Bay will be held on Friday (Oct 25, 2013) at 3:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Pastor David Sheppard officiating. Burial will follow the service at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Hammond.

Calling hours will be held also on Friday from 1:00-3:00pm at the funeral home. Mr. Gibson passed away Tuesday evening at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center.

Surviving is his wife Beryl; a son Kevin Gibson both of Chippewa Bay; two daughters Karen Snyder of Oswego & Sandra Warren & her husband Howard of Morristown; a brother Philip Gibson of Ogdensburg; three sisters Elizabeth Gascon of TX, Betty & Barbara Lowery both of Morristown; three grandchildren Cherie & Ritchie Snyder and Jessica Iannuzzo; two great-grandchildren Kara Braley & Madison Snyder along with many nieces, nephews & cousins.

Two brothers Victor & Gerald Gibson along with four sisters Janice Neddo, Florence Gascon, Helen Handschuh & Esther Stever predeceased him.

Dick was born on February 2, 1929 in Rossie, NY a son of the late Henry & Ruth (Robinson) Gibson. He entered the US Navy in 1946 and received his honorable discharge in 1950. He then married Beryl Petrie on October 20, 1951 in Bellville, NY at the Methodist Church.

During his career he was employed with Eastman Bros. as a silo builder, Carrier Corp as a welder and Hutchinson Boat Works where he did upholstery and canvas work for 41 years. He retired in 1994. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and playing poker. He was the secretary and treasurer of the Chippewa Fish & Game Club, associate member of the JOBO Hunting Club and a member of the Indian River Hunting Club.
