COLTON - The Friends of Higley Flow State Park, Inc., is sponsoring a trail work day beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday at the park.
Volunteers for the trail work will need to sign in at the Park Office. There are no tolls to enter the park during this time of year.
Members of the St. Lawrence University Cross-Country Ski Team will be present to help as well, providing an excellent opportunity to meet some of the collegiate skiers.
Work is almost finshed on the new Higley Trails Lodge. Participants in the trail day will have an opportunity to tour the site. Some of the volunteer work might be around the grounds of the Lodge.
Please come, help prepare the trails for winter, and enjoy a pleasant walk through the woods.
The group sponsors many events at the park during the year, including a Century Bike Event in September and the Higley Hustle, a cross-country ski event that is part of the Colton Winter Festival. The friends have also subsidized the production of tree and bird guides and its volunteers are also responsible for helping in the work of winter trail grooming and maintenance.
People interested in joining can send donations to The Friends of Higley Flow State Park, Inc., P.O. Box 249, Colton, NY 13625, or by visiting the Friends website, www.higleyfriends.org. Contributions are deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
