Police charge two men with intoxicated driving


The following were charged with driving while intoxicated and related offenses:

n Andrew J. Markle, 52, Stone Ridge, Ulster County, was charged by state police with aggravated DWI and stopping in a highway at 1:20 a.m. Sunday.

Police said Mr. Markle was found by officers asleep at the wheel on Middle Road in the town of Greig.

His blood alcohol content was registered at 0.19 percent. A BAC of 0.08 percent or more constitutes intoxication under state law. Aggravated DWI is charged when the BAC is 0.18 percent or more.

n John G. Loftus, 24, of 418 Brady Road, Sackets Harbor, was charged by city police with aggravated DWI and passing through a red light at 1:24 a.m. Sunday at 100 N. Meadow St.

He was taken to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, where his BAC was determined to be 0.22 percent.

He was released to Fort Drum military police.
