NNCS officials interview two construction management firms

NORFOLK — Norwood-Norfolk Central School officials have interviewed two construction management firms to oversee a proposed capital project, and they hope to select one of them during their November board of education meeting.

Superintendent James M. Cruikshank said he’s “hopeful” that he will have a recommendation for the board soon. Five firms had responded to a request for proposals, and Mr. Cruikshank and Bob Brothers, superintendent of buildings and grounds, narrowed those to C & S Companies and Watchdog, both called in for interviews two weeks ago.

District officials have been leaning toward hiring a construction management firm to help select an architect for the capital project and oversee the work.

In a discussion earlier this year on using a construction manager versus a clerk of the works, they leaned toward the construction manager based on the services available.

From the nine architectural firms that responded to an initial request they have chosen to look at two: William Taylor Architects and March Associates.

The construction management firm will assist with the selection of the architect.

The scope or cost of the capital project has not yet been determined.

However, the focus will be in three areas: security and safety of the students, faculty and staff; energy efficiency and cost-savings and refurbishment of district assets.
