Women’s Realtor group sponsors candidate forum

The four Watertown City Council candidates met one last time for a forum before Tuesday’s election.

Incumbents Jeffrey M. Smith and Teresa R. Macaluso and political newcomers Cody J. Horbacz and Stephen A. Jennings were among candidates who attended a meet-the-candidates luncheon Thursday at the Italian-American Civic Association, Bellew Avenue.

They had a few minutes to talk about themselves at the event sponsored by the Women’s Council of Realtors. It was not a debate, and the 20 people in attendance did not ask questions.

For the past five years, the Realtors group has put on similar events at election time, past president Lisa L’Huillier Ruggiero said. The organization represents Jefferson and Lewis counties.

“It gives them a chance for candidates to talk about who they are and why they are running,” she said, noting it gives those in the audience a better understanding of politics.

Candidates in other races also were invited to participate.

They included Jefferson County Board of Legislators candidates Jeremiah J. Maxon and Donna J. Bohn, who are competing for the District 10 seat, and Gizelle J. Meeks, running for county clerk; and Lewis County Board of Legislators candidates Craig P. Brennan, District 3, Thomas E. Jaconski, District 5, and Andrea J. Moroughan, District 6.
