SLC shades OFA in early morning meet

An 8 a.m. wakeup makeup start on Saturday morning did nothing to deter the determination of the OFA and St. Lawrence Central Girls swimming teams.

The two teams, who both finished the regular season at 7-5, staged their second extremely close match of the season with the Larries reversing a first round loss with an 86-83 victory.

Cammie Ramsdell completed a triple medalist outing by combining with Breanna Anderson, Bailee Gauthier and Madee Derouchie to win the 400 freestyle relay finale.

Ramsdell also led the 200 and 500 freestyle races and Hailey Arquiett paced the 100 butterfly and swam on the winning medley relay team with Derochie, Taylor Capozzi and Alex Craft.

The Lady Devils posted a 6-5 advantagein first places in their Senior Day meet and Coach Ben Fleahman recognized the efforts of four seniors in co-captains Hunter Shaver and Natalie Perrigo, Jillian Hogle and Taylor Briggs.

“It is always sad to see your seniors go but it is time for these young ladies to go out and become outstanding professional people,” said Fleahman.

“They have all worked very hard and given a great deal to our program.”

Junior Susie Morrow continued as OFA’s season-long leader in the pool leading the 100 freestyle, the 100 backstroke and combining with Megan Mills, Chelsea Montroy and Julia Mullin for a victory in the 200 freestyle relay.

Mullin also combined with Natalie Perrigo for a 1-2 in the 200 individual medley and Perrigo led the 100 breastroke in her final race in the OFA pool.

Chelsea Montroy rounded out OFA’s first places by leading the 50 freestyle and rounded out an OFA 1-2 in the 100 freestyle. Other individual seconds came from Claire Dufore (200 Fs-500 Fs) and Mullin (100 butterfly).

“Claire Dufore and Megan Mills really turned in hard-working efforts today and Natalie Perrigo had a very nice win in the breaststroke” said Coach Fleahman.

With their regular seasons complete, the Devils and Larries will now shift their focus for the Section 10 Championships which will be staged on Saturday at SUNY Potsdam.
