Former Rodman councilman challenges supervisor for spot

RODMAN — Former Councilman Stacey J. Berry is looking to unseat incumbent Gary R. Stinson in the race for supervisor.

The incumbent Republican appeared happy to let his work speak for him. Among his accomplishments while working with the council, Mr. Stinson pointed out, are the develoment of a general fund and highway reserve that didn’t exist before his time in office; renovating the town office and keeping the tax rate flat in the 2014 budget.

“If people look at my record and the record of the town since I became supervisor, I think they’d be happy,” he said.

Mr. Stinson said he and the council had a good working relationship that allowed them to be successful.

Mr. Berry, who said he was on the council for about 12 years, serves on the town’s Planning Board.

He said he was inspired to run after being asked by several people to do so.

Among Mr. Berry’s goals are increasing community interaction and adding more public input at meetings.

The challenger is running as an independent after his Democratic petition was invalidated by the Board of Elections after Walter M. Gallo objected on the grounds that the incorrect date was listed on the preamble of the form.
