MASSENA After nearly 12 years of service as a member of the Massena Electric Department board, Jack R. Sauve has resigned, citing ongoing issues with his health.
The Town Council accepted Mr. Sauves resignation with regret last week.
According to his letter, his resignation will be effective Monday.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Massena town board councilmen for my appointment to the Massena Electric Board of Trustees, Mr. Sauve wrote. The nearly 12 years I was honored to serve this board and our community has been productive and rewarding.
Mr. Sauve also thanked the members of the MED board and staff for all of their support during medical challenges he and his wife have faced in recent years.
MED Superintendent Andrew J. McMahon said hell always remember Mr. Sauve for the passion that he brought to the board.
He wasnt afraid to pound the table for what he believed in, he said. He would get heated at times, but he always made sure his issues were heard and resolved.
Board Chairman James M. Shaw called Mr. Sauve a great asset to the board.
His background in public service and his experience with St. Lawrence Gas were always valuable to the discussions of the board, he said.
Mr. Shaw also noted that over the years he had the opportunity to work closely with Mr. Sauve on a number of projects. Jack had a great love for the community, he said. We worked closely on a number of projects, including an attempt to build a hydro dam on the Grasse River. He always brought great insight and passion to his service on the board.
Board member Richard J. Blais said the thing that stands out for him is Mr. Sauves dedication to all citizens in the Massena Electric service area. He was always concerned with how things would impact the common man, Mr. Blais said.
MED board member and former Massena Democratic Party Chairman Rene P. Hart noted that Mr. Sauves service to the community extends further back than the past 12 years. Jack has done a great deal for the community through the years, he said. First in his service as town supervisor, and more recently through serving 12 years on the MED board. I appreciate all the work he has done, and I have enjoyed working with him.
After accepting Mr. Sauves resignation, the town board appointed John M. Bogosian to fill his seat.
