Russell N. Williams, 57, of Sackets Harbor, died Tuesday afternoon, November 5, 2013, at Saint Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica. A memorial service will be 11:00 am Saturday November 9, 2013 at the Piddock Funeral Home, Adams, with Rev. Thomas Wilson, pastor of the Smithville Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Smithville Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 5:00 to 8:00 pm Friday at the funeral home.

Born May 26, 1957 in Watertown, son of Gilbert and Edith Dickinson Williams, he was a 1974 graduate of Sackets Harbor Central School and attended SUNY Geneseo. Rusty worked at the farmer Dairyman’s League Cheese Plant in Adams, and later worked at Fort Drum as a supply technician for over twenty years before retiring in 2001.

He married Mary Shaw in 1980. The couple lived in Adams Center and later in Smithville. The marriage ended in divorce.

Rusty moved to Sackets Harbor in the late 1990’s.

He is survived by one son, Christopher N. Williams, Adams; one grandson Caleb and one grand daughter Madison; an Uncle Howard “Jake” Hamilton, Adams; four cousins, Lisa (Hank) Rogers, Smithville, Tracy (David) Puckett, Adams, Scott (Angi) Weldon, Lorraine, and Andrew (Danielle) Weldon, Smithville.

He is predeceased by his parents.

In his younger years he enjoyed golf and hunting. He was an avid NY Yankees, Giants and Syracuse Orangeman fan. For many years he especially enjoyed collecting sport cards and coins with his son.

Rusty was a member and former Fire Chief of the Smithville Fire Department. He announced basketball games for Sackets Harbor Central School and coached Little League baseball.
