Whats old is new again.
This years Ogdensburg Thanksgiving Craft Show, Nov. 23, will have as much continuity as it does change.
The event, which has run for more than 25 years, is expanding to a new venue this year and the Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce is taking over as the organization responsible for its execution.
Previously organized through St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES by Cobblestone Gifts owner Bonnie M. Griffith, this years craft show will be put together by Chamber of Commerce member Cheryl L. Seymour.
Mrs. Seymour said she has already lined up more than 80 vendors for the show which will be held at 120 Chimney Point Dr.
For the past two-decades the craft show has been held at Kennedy Elementary School, but Mrs. Seymour said the construction project at that building prevented them from continuing to use it.
The new place should have lots of room, Mrs. Seymour said. There will be plenty of walking space.
Mrs. Griffith said she is excited by the new leadership and confident that this years event will have all the holiday charm associated with the show in years past.
Its fun, it really is, Mrs. Griffith said of the craft show that features only handmade goods from vendors that travel from all across the north country.
Mrs. Griffith said the show is a special way for the community to kick off the holiday season, and having so many vendors come to the city is a real treat.
Its like 85 stores all in one spot, she said.
Mrs. Seymour said the event draws roughly 1,000 people who come for everything from handmade jewelry to soap to chainsaw art.
The new venue, which is close to the Ogdensburg International Bridge, will be particularly handy to Canadian visitors, Mrs. Griffith said, and its location right off Route 37 makes it accessible to everyone else.
I think it work out great, Mrs. Griffith said.
The show will run from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 23 and admission is $3.
Attendees are encouraged to bring canned food items that will be donated to the Ogdensburg Neighborhood Center.
Mrs. Seymour said there will be refreshments, pizza, hot dogs and chili available.
