Watertown Town Council approves $4,9m budget

The Watertown Town Council on Thursday night adopted a $4,938,180 budget without making any revisions to the proposed fiscal plan.

No one spoke at the public hearing the same night. Councilman David W. Prosser asked two questions, whether enough money for engineering expenses and the cost of redoing a town website were included in the budget.

Supervisor Joel R. Bartlett said both were included before the Town Council unanimously voted for the fiscal plan. Again, residents will not have to pay a property tax. The water and sewer fees remained the same as they were in the previous year’s budget.

“It’s a pretty bare-boned budget,” Mr. Bartlett said.

Appropriations for the budget are increasing by $269,659, or 5.8 percent, from $4,668,521 to $4,938,180. Mr. Bartlett attributed it to increases in health care costs and contributions to the state retirement system.

General fund employees are receiving a 3-percent salary increase, while highway workers are getting a 2.5-percent raise.

Council members met twice to discuss the budget before adopting it.
