In a race that was tied on election night, a count of absentee ballots has given victory to incumbent Rodman Supervisor Gary R. Stinson.
Mr. Stinson defeated challenger Stacey Berry, 140-137, after eight absentees were counted Tuesday. Machine votes had them tied at 135.
But progress on absentee vote counting was halted Tuesday by a technical problem at the offices of the Board of Elections.
While conducting the absentee count for the town of Alexandria, officials were thwarted by a locked door caused by a dead battery. Behind the door is the poll book for town of Alexandria election district three.
Absentee ballots must be checked against records from election day to ensure that voters did not vote twice.
A locksmith will be at the Board of Elections office by 1 p.m. today to fix the lock, according to Republican Election Commissioner Jerry O. Eaton.
Cape Vincent absentee ballots, which have already been checked against election day poll books, will be counted this morning beginning at 9 a.m.
