Watertowns Roswell P. Flower Memorial Library is seeking a special events coordinator to facilitate large community functions at the historic building.
Connie A. Holberg, president of Flower Memorials board of trustees, said that appointing someone to oversee special events would allow the 229 Washington St. facility to be used for outside functions without taking away time and resources from the librarys professional staff.
The coordinator, who would be compensated by the host of each event rather than being hired as a salaried worker for Flower Memorial, will help schedule and supervise events for community groups or nonprofits permitted to use the facility.
The deadline to apply for the position is today. This is a 12-month appointment.
Following some controversy over the library boards decision last year to prohibit events not related to the library, the board revisited the matter and adopted in June a new events policy.
The library plans to permit only a handful of community events each year approximately four, according to the request for proposals for the events coordinator position.
Also, weddings, political campaigning and religious functions are not allowed in the building.
