RIT holds off St. Lawrence, 6-4

ROCHESTER — Rochester Institute of Technology scored the game’s first four goals en route to posting a 6-4 triumph over St. Lawrence University in a nonconference men’s hockey game on Saturday night.

Leading 1-0 after one period on a goal from Brad McGowan, the Tigers (2-7-2) scored twice within the first 4:07 of the second period as Danny Smith and Mike Colavecchia each scored nine seconds apart to generate the fastest two goals in RIT program history.

Dan Schuler scored twice for the Tigers and Brandon Thompson contributed a goal.

Greg Carey and Jeremy Wick each scored a power-play goal for the Saints (7-5-2), who had their five-game unbeaten road streak (3-0-2) halted at five.

Greg Carey scored a goal and Ross McMullen scored his first collegiate goal for St. Lawrence, which rallied to pull within 5-4 late in the third period.

Starting goalie Matt Weninger surrendered four goals on nine shots for the Saints.

Kyle MacDonald, who finished with nine saves, took the loss for St. Lawrence.
