Ogdensburg Thanksgiving Craft Show entices more than 1,200 shoppers

This year’s Ogdensburg Thanksgiving Craft Show saw more people than ever attend the 25-year-old event, held Saturday.

This year’s show was the first one organized by the Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce, which took it over from the St. Lawrence-Lewis Board of Cooperative Educational Services.

Organizer Cheryl L. Seymour said 1,290 people attended this event, held at 120 Chimney Point Drive, far exceeding her expectations.

In the past the event, which has been held at Kennedy Elementary School, brought close to 1,000 people to the city for the sales and handmade crafts, Mrs. Seymour said.

“It was above my wildest dreams,” Mrs. Seymour said. “It worked out amazing.”

With a total of 75 vendors participating in this year’s event Mrs. Seymour said she hopes to find a bigger venue next year.

“I had a waiting list,” she said, “but I just didn’t have the room.”

Mrs. Seymour said she already has people signing up for next year’s event.

“You need a huge space,” she said.

The event will continue to be organized by the Chamber of Commerce next year.

The craft show provides a venue for people who make only handmade goods to sell their wares in Ogdensburg at the onset of the holiday season.

In addition to changing the venue and the leadership this year, the event was also open longer, running from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and attendees were encouraged to bring a canned food donation for the Ogdensburg Neighborhood Center in addition to the $3 entrance fee.

Mrs. Seymour said shoppers donated roughly 800 pounds of nonperishable food that will be donated to the neighborhood center.

“It was a great success,” Mrs. Seymour said.
