SARANAC LAKE A Harrietstown woman is being accused of murder after Saranac Lake village police discovered the stabbed and bludgeoned body of a Lake Placid man in a village apartment.
Police responded to a 911 call about 11 a.m. Monday for a possible assault at 19 Morris Way, where they found Ward Guy Wilbur, 65, of 19 Adirondack Lodge Road in Lake Placid, dead.
Police Chief Bruce Nason said the call was made by Angela Ball, 29, of 1951 Route 86, Harrietstown, who had been using the Morris Way apartment for the past two weeks and was at the scene when police arrived.
Ball was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder in connection with Mr. Wilburs death, which police said was the result of blunt force and knife wounds.
Chief Nason said he could not confirm what instruments were used or say what the motive might have been.
There were multiple search warrants issued to her vehicle, person, apartment and one to another residence that she did have access to, he said.
We have recovered and seized a knife, a baseball bat, clothing, 100 small marijuana plants and equipment used in the growing of marijuana plants, he said.
While Chief Nason said it was unclear why Mr. Wilbur was at the apartment, police determined that he and Ball had been in an intimate relationship several years ago and had remained in touch.
An autopsy was performed Tuesday and the results were pending.
The state police Violent Crime Investigative Team and its forensic investigative unit have joined in the investigation.
Ball was arraigned Tuesday in Saranac Lake Village Court and is being held without bail in Franklin County jail, Malone.
