HEUVELTON - A nine day layoff severely hurt the start for Heuvelton in Friday’s NAC West Girls Basketball game against Morristown.

The Bulldogs (3-0) led just 6-3 after the first quarter but regrouped for a 22-12 halftime lead and a 60-22 win.

“It was a struggle early but we got a win” said HCS coach Rob Powers.

Paige McCormick generated 21 points and supplied eight rebounds, three assists and five steals leading Heuvelton. Olivia St. Pierre tallied 12 points while Maddie St. Pierre posted nine rebounds, five assists and three st eals. Hannah Thornhill collected six points, five assists, three rebounds and two steals while Alexis Weidner posted four steals and six points.

Taylor Piercey paced Morristown (1-2) with nine points while Sam Green and Jessica Geddes scored seven and five respectively.

In the junior varsity game, Heuvelton won 45-20 over Morristown. Alex Steele scored 15 points while Nathalie Barr added seven and Kristy Donnelly chipped in six. Meghan Vollmer scored 13 for Morristown.

The Harrisville Booster Club Tournament was postponed because of a winter storm.
