MASSENA - Good news. It has stopped snowing after a nearly 24-hour dose of the white stuff falling from the sky.

Bad news. The snow has been replaced by cold. Bone chilling cold. Cold that quickly has your dog walking on three legs when he goes out for his morning stroll. Cold that immediately freezes the fluids in your nose. Cold that has you looking for your warmest gloves, your touque and - style points be darned - the warmest coat you can find in your closet.

The National Weather Service has issued a windchill advisory that remains in effect until 1 p.m. today. They are predicting temperatures will plummet early this morning to as low as 7 below zero and light winds will increase to 10 to 15 mph through out the day.

The National Weather System says that lovely combination - Artic temperatures and a nice breeze - could lead to wind chill readings as low as 24 below zero. “Under these conditions, frostbite develops within 30 minutes,” according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures are only expected to climb into the single digits above zero during daylight hours.

The temperature was reported at 2 below zero shortly before 6 a.m. Monday in Massena.

The National Weather Service was reporting at temperatue of 1 degree and a wind chill of 16 below zero in Potsdam.
